Cookies and local storage

What this site stores in your browser

The core calculator uses local browser storage for convenience. Google Analytics loads with measurement storage denied by default, Google AdSense is not currently active, and hosting infrastructure may use necessary delivery or security technology.

Cookies and localStorage are different technologies

A cookie is a small value that a browser may send back to a server with later requests. localStorage keeps values in the browser and does not automatically attach them to every web request. Both can remember information, but they behave differently and may be controlled in different browser settings.

Free Algebra Solver uses localStorage directly. The Google Analytics tag loads with analytics storage denied and may send limited cookieless measurements, but it may set first-party measurement cookies only after Analytics consent. No application advertising identifier or AdSense tag is currently active. A hosting or security layer may still use essential cookies or request identifiers needed to route traffic, reduce abuse, or maintain availability.

Current first-party storage

Storage used by the public calculator
KeyPurpose and duration
fas-themeRemembers light or dark appearance until the value is cleared or replaced.
fas-historyKeeps up to eight recent calculator entries on the device until cleared by the visitor or browser.
fas-cookie-consent-v1Records Analytics and Advertising choices until site data is cleared or a revised consent version is introduced.
_ga and _ga_<container-id>Set by Google Analytics only after Analytics consent to distinguish users and maintain session state. Google documents a default expiration of up to two years, subject to browser and property settings.

How to control or remove storage

Blocking localStorage may prevent theme or recent-history preferences from persisting, but the calculator is designed so storage failure does not block a new solve request.

  • Use “Clear history” in the calculator sidebar to remove fas-history.
  • Use the theme control to replace the saved theme preference.
  • Use “Cookie settings” in the footer to accept, reject, or change optional Analytics and Advertising choices.
  • Use browser settings to clear cookies and site data for freealgebrasolver.com.
  • Use private-browsing or storage controls if you do not want preferences retained after the session.

Analytics and advertising services

Google Analytics is the only measurement provider configured today. Its tag loads in advanced Consent Mode, with analytics storage, ad storage, ad user data, and ad personalization denied by default. Google may receive limited cookieless measurements in that state, but Analytics cookies and client identifiers remain unavailable until the visitor grants Analytics storage. Necessary and functional storage does not switch those optional signals on.

The Advertising preference prepares a clear user choice, but Google AdSense itself remains disabled until a verified ca-pub client ID and compliant ad setup are added. Google requires a certified CMP integrated with the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework when personalized ads are served to visitors in the EEA, United Kingdom, and Switzerland. This site’s custom preference panel should not be represented as that certification.

Changes to this notice

The inventory will be updated when the site adds, removes, or materially changes storage technology. The effective date reflects a substantive review rather than an automatic date refresh.
